Mohawk High’s Alyssa Natale showcased her basketball talents Saturday.

Natale tossed in a team-high 21 points for the South in an 81-55 loss to the North in the North-South All-Star game at Wilmington High School.

The North completed the sweep in the boys game, posting a 103-96 victory.

Boys and girls from 21 area high schools representing Lawrence County and Mercer County participated in the game, which was organized by Lady Greyhounds coach Brian Turk.

“These kids that thought they were rivals, once we got them in the gym together, by the time practice ended Friday, they were all texting each other and becoming good friends,” Turk said. “Some realized they are going to the same college and may room together.

“It’s like a bonding thing for the communities. The kids seem to enjoy it and the coaches do, too.”

Natale was named the South’s MVP. Farrell’s D’Asia Chambers earned MVP honors for the North. The MVPs were voted on by the opposing coaches.

Shenango’s Carly Senko followed with 12 points for the South. All of her points came on 3-pointers.

“I always thought Alyssa Natale was a great leader and player for Mohawk,” Turk said. “She definitely showed that in the game.

“Senko had a strong run in that second half for the South.”

New Castle’s Zynieckia Bester chipped in with seven points for the South and Shenango’s Miranda Black added six.

Sharon’s Annie Carpenter won the 3-point contest, topping New Castle’s Breanna Beshero.

In the boys game, Lewis Brown fired in a game-best 28 points for the North. Brown, who drained six 3-pointers, was named the team’s MVP. Riverside’s Josh Anderson paced the South with 13 points to earn the MVP award.

Wilmington’s Jake DeMedal was next with 11 markers for the South. Damian Trott (Union), C.J. VanEman (Neshannock) and Cody Mittica (Ellwood City Lincoln) tossed in nine points each, while Richard McKinney (Ellwood City Lincoln) and Marquale May (New Castle) added seven apiece.

Slippery Rock’s Ryan Gordon claimed the boys 3-point contest, knocking off Kennedy Catholic’s Jake Penn.

The slam dunk contest was canceled.
