Heavy snow wreaked havoc on Friday night’s basketball schedule.
Four boys games and a girls contest were postponed by the heavy snowfall that swept across the area.
New Castle High’s WPIAL Section 2-AAA matchup at home against Center was postponed to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Red Hurricane (3-7, 4-14) must win to stay alive in the playoff race. The Trojans (8-1, 13-4) are a half-game behind section-leading Hopewell (9-1, 15-5).
A Center win would eliminate New Castle from the playoffs.
Mohawk’s home game with Summit Academy was shifted to 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Warriors (2-7, 6-12) must win out and have the Knights lose their final two games to make the playoffs.
The Neshannock-Lincoln Park showdown was bumped to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Park. The Lancers (4-1, 13-6) can contend for a share of the section title with a win over the Leopards (6-0, 13-6). However, if Lincoln Park prevails, it claims the section crown outright.
The nonsection matchup between Laurel (11-6) and Western Beaver (7-7) on the Spartans’ home floor was postponed and no makeup date was set.
On the girls side, a nonsection contest with West Shamokin (10-8) traveling to Shenango (8-11) was also postponed with no makeup date announced.
