County Boys Leaders: Union’s Thomas on fire

Union High’s Anthony Thomas is out to a strong start in the county boys basketball statistics.

Thomas, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, owns a county-best 29.3 scoring average to top the boys list. He has netted 264 points in nine games.

The Scotties are off to a 9-0 mark behind Thomas. He has games of 46 and 47 points as well, with his lowest output being 17.

Thomas is first in 3-pointers with 31, while ranking second in free-throw percentage at 76.2 (45 of 59). The minimum attempts to qualify for recognition is 30.

Mohawk’s Jake Grim is giving Thomas a good battle in the scoring average race. Grim, a 6-1 senior guard, is averaging 22.8 points a contest.

Grim has tallied 251 points in 11 games. He ranks fifth in free-throw percentage at 71.9 percent (64 of 89) and is tied for seventh in 3-pointers (13).

Wilmington’s Jake DeMedal, a 6-1 senior guard, ranks third in scoring at 18.5 points a game. DeMedal has 130 points in seven games.

Shenango’s Jordan O’Hara, a 6-0 sophomore guard, paces the county in free-throw percentage at 78.1 (25 of 32).
