Rosters set for North-South All-Star matchups
Mar 24, 2010
The best senior high school basketball players will be on display Saturday.

Boys and girls from 21 area schools will compete in the North-South All-Star game at Wilmington High.

The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the boys contest at 8 p.m.

A 3-point shooting contest will take place between games, while a slam-dunk contest will precede the boys game.

Shenango coach Bob McQuiston will lead the South boys squad that will feature three of Lawrence County’s top scorers in Mohawk’s Jake Grim (23.0 points per game), Neshannock’s Bobby Nittinger (18.7) and Wilmington’s Jake DeMedal (17.8).

Every other county school is represented on the team except for New Castle.

The North boys will be led by Shenango graduate Jim Smiley, who will be coaching against two of his former players from Neshannock — Nittinger and Joey Fontana.

Smiley just finished a successful season at Sharpsville after spending 27 years with the Lancers.

Union’s Brian Fadden will coach the South girls team. Mohawk’s trio of Alyssa Natale, Kelly Fox and Amanda Shaffer headline a talented South lineup.

Wilmington coach Brian Turk will lead the North girls squad.
