Shannonhouse resigns as Farrell coach
Mar 04, 2010
Roland Shannonhouse has stepped down from his position as Farrell High boys basketball coach.

Shannonhouse handed in his letter of resignation a day after his team was upset by Central Tech in the first round of the District 10, Class AAA playoffs on Sunday.

The seven-year head coach cited time management and a desire to spend more time with his family as reasons for his decision.

Shannonhouse, who spent six years as an assistant before becoming head coach, is a Pennsylvania State Police trooper and works the midnight shift.

He also has children involved in activities that he would like to take part in, he wrote.

Shannonhouse compiled a 138-43 record at Farrell and came one game away from playing for the PIAA title last season before losing to Greensburg Salem in the western final.

The Steelers entered the playoffs with a 17-4 record after winning the Region 5-AAA championship.
