Brown, Giancola lead Mohawk girls
Mohawk (49) Vs. Indiana (46)
Dec 28, 2012
Mohawk’s offensive duo of Shelby Brown and Devon Giancola continued their path of destruction.
This time, it came at the cost of Indiana in a triumph in the LGKG Holiday Classic at Riverside.
Brown paced all shooters with 21 points in the victory. Giancola was second for the Lady Warriors with 14 and a team-high eight rebounds.
What is most important Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare is the duo scored 12 of their combined 35 points in the fourth-quarter.
“They really carried us in the fourth-quarter,” he said. “They’re both scorers. For them to produce like that in the fourth quarter is big for us.”
The Lady Warriors (7-1) took a 15-6 lead into the second. It was short lived, as Indiana responded with 19 points in the frame to force a 25-25 halftime tie.
“I thought we lost our minds in the second quarter,” O’Lare said. “It looked like we had heavy legs. We were two steps away from everybody. We gave them a lot of clean looks. It seemed like we had a trailer attached in the second quarter, and we couldn’t get it unhooked.”
Mohawk rebounded to outscore Indiana, 16-11, in the fourth quarter to seal its fifth win in a row.
“I thought it was a good win against a good team,” O’Lare said. “We played well enough to win defensively. I give the kids credit. They came together at halftime and righted the ship.”
