Brown leads Lady Warriors

Mohawk High’s Shelby Brown nearly outscored Wilmington by herself Saturday.

Brown fired in 31 points as the Lady Warriors’ basketball team posted a 66-31 triumph in the Lady Warrior Shootout.

Mohawk bolted to a 23-4 lead after the first quarter and held a 37-13 halftime advantage. Brown, an all-tournament team selection, scored 23 of her 31 points in the first half, including all six of her 3-pointers.

“That was impressive,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “It was nice to start out with a couple wins.”

Paige Ruby had 10 points for the Lady Warriors (2-0), while Devon Giancola had eight and Lucia Feed had six.

Carly Christofferson led the Lady Greyhounds (1-1) with eight points. She was named to the all-tournament team. Tessa Sikora and Hannah Drake both added seven points for Wilmington.
