Darrian Johnson scored 19 points, most of which came late in the game, to lead New Castle to a 43-41 win over Beaver Falls in the opening game of the Slippery Rock Christmas Tournament.
The Lady ’Canes (3-6) take on Slippery Rock for the championship at 5:30 p.m. today.
New Castle managed just nine field goals in the game, but made 23 of 41 free throws, including 12 of 16 by Johnson. The Lady Tigers had 15 field goals, but were 9 of just 16 at the charity stripe.
