Mohawk coasts past Woodland Hills
Mohawk (64) Vs. Woodland Hills (30)
Dec 28, 2013
Jaki Bender helped Mohawk to an easy 64-30 win over Woodland Hills in the LGKG Holiday Classic last night.

Mohawk (7-1) opened the game on a 10-0 run and Bender had the team’s first eight points. She tallied 10 of her 14 markers in the opening frame.

“Jaki was hot right out of the gate,” Lady Warriors coach Mike O’Lare said. “That was the best game she’s played this year; she’s shooting it well.”

Samantha Carr netted a game-high 16 points for Mohawk, 10 coming in the second quarter as the winners built a 37-17 halftime advantage. Aliya Gage was next with 15 points.

“I thought we played very unselfish and that’s why our scoring was balanced,” O’Lare said. “The key was that we had to hit shots early on against their zone and we did that. Everybody seemed to follow Jaki’s lead.”

Sara Miller tossed in 14 points for the Class AAAA Lady Wolverines (1-7).

Mohawk will battle Ellwood City at 8 p.m. today.
