Union holds own with Beaver Falls
Union (56) Vs. Beaver Falls (66)
Dec 06, 2013
Benjamin Young scored 27 points as Union held its own in a 66-56 loss to Beaver Falls in the Ellwood City Tipoff Tournament.
“The kids battled,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “Beaver Falls actually jumped out on us 7-0, we called a timeout just to settle the kids down and they played well after that. There is a lot of inexperience down the line, but they played hard, defended well and made some shots. We turned the ball over, but you’re going to turn the ball over against a team like Beaver Falls.”
The Scotties did not help their own cause, converting just 19 of 34 free throws.
“Obviously we have to get better in that area,” Smialowski said. “Free throws win big games and they lose big games. We have to step it up and get it done in the future.”
Jullian Johnson had 10 rebounds, while Young grabbed 10 caroms for Union.
Javon Turner paced the Tigers with 19 points and Dan Stratton added 14.
