Dec 06, 2013
Jordan Smith helped Wilmington get off to a strong start and cruise past Fort LeBoeuf 74-39 on the Fort LeBoeuf Tipoff Tournament.
Smith scored the first nine points for the Greyhounds (1-0) as they built a 7-0 lead, prompting a timeout by Fort LeBoeuf. Wilmington continued the run out of the timeout and pushed the buffer to 18-3, prompting another timeout.
The Greyhounds settled for a 24-5 advantage after the first quarter.
Smith finished with 24 points and a career-best 22 rebounds.
“We went to Jordan for the first four possessions of the game and he capitalized on every one of them,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “He allowed everyone else to get open shots.”
Spencer DeMedal followed with 14 points and seven rebounds for Wilmington, while Travis Brumbaugh chipped in 12 markers. Dan Danus added eight boards and seven blocks.
“I think we really set the tempo early,” Jeckavitch said. “We created a lot of turnovers; our defense was our best offense.
“We kind of outran them on both ends of the ball. We used our quickness and athleticism.”
The Greyhounds will play Oil City at 8 p.m. today.
