Lincoln Park star ineligible again
Feb 10, 2009
Justin Hosack apparently won’t be playing for the Lincoln Park boys basketball team in the WPIAL playoffs.

Hosack, a transfer from Hopewell, was ruled ineligible to play for the Leopards for the second time this season.

Both the PIAA and WPIAL ruled Hosack ineligible before the season, believing his transfer was for athletic intent. However, Beaver County Common Pleas Judge John P. Dohanic issued a preliminary injunction on Jan. 16, allowing Hosack to play through the end of the regular season.

The PIAA appealed Dohanic’s ruling and Commonwealth Judge Barry Feudale upheld the PIAA and WPIAL decision.

Lincoln Park went 8-2 and tied Neshannock for the Section 1-A title. Hosack played in six games and averaged 22 points.

WPIAL executive director Tim O’Malley told the Beaver County Times and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Lincoln Park will not have to forfeit games in which Hosack played.

Lincoln Park athletic director Mike Bariski told the Times in a statement, “Friday’s eleventh-hour decision by Judge Barry Feudale is deeply disappointing.

“The Hosack family and their attorneys have not given up their fight for what they and we believe is right. We are exploring options to Pennsylvania’s higher court system.”
