Hopewell races past Ellwood
Hopewell (67) Vs. Ellwood City (33)
Jan 28, 2011
A massive run in the first quarter ended Ellwood City Lincoln’s chance at a Section 2-AAA victory against Hopewell.

The Lady Vikings (5-4, 9-7) raced to a 22-2 lead and never looked back against the Lady Wolverines, who were without leading scorer Michelle Nocera because of an illness.

“Hopewell put on a clinic as far as running the court and boxing out,” Ellwood City coach Bill Gottuso said. “They had us shut down pretty good. Every basket we did make, we earned. There weren’t any fast breaks or easy layups.”

Angela McCowin corralled a team-high 15 rebounds and six blocks to go along with six points for the Lady Wolverines (1-8, 8-11). Nicole Nocera, Michelle’s sister, led Ellwood City with eight points.

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough paced Hopewell with 25 points.
