Shelby Brown shattered her previous career high and helped Mohawk snap a seven-game losing streak.
Brown scored 23 points — her previous best was 12 — and grabbed five rebounds as the Lady Warriors (5-13) cruised to a nonsection victory.
“She’s been playing well as of late, and she’s definitely capable of doing what she did tonight,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “When she gets confidence, she plays well.”
Brooke Shasteen added 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds to notch a double-double. She and Brown combined for 22 of the Lady Warriors’ 29 first-half points. Brown scored all of her points in the first three quarters as she was out during the fourth period. Mohawk took a 29-18 halftime lead and shut the door by outscoring South Side Beaver, 18-7, in the third quarter.
“We were just being aggressive,” O’Lare said of the early success. “We’ve been kind of a disappearing act as a team at times this year, but we’ve played better our last five games.”
Brittany Dhayer led the Lady Rams (6-11) with 11 points.
