Nocera hurt as Ellwood girls lose
Trinity (62) Vs. Ellwood City (57)
Dec 29, 2010
An injury to Nicole Nocera and poor shooting in the second half doomed Ellwood City Lincoln in a nonsection loss to Trinity.
Nocera hurt her shoulder early in the third period, which was when the Lady Wolverines’ skid began. Ellwood City (3-4) led by 14 at halftime, but the Lady Hillers allowed just 12 points after intermission while scoring 31.
“As well as we played in the first half was equally as bad as we played in the second half,” Ellwood City coach Bill Gottuso said. “We couldn’t make anything in the second half, and they didn’t miss.”
Gottuso said Nocera was at the hospital awaiting X-rays last night, and the severity of her injury wasn’t yet known. She scored 10 points and had six assists in her two quarters of play. Sister Michelle Nocera led the Lady Wolverines with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Asia Borders added 10 markers.
Gottuso said Nicole Nocera was diving for a pass when her shoulder struck an opposing player’s head. The game was stopped for several minutes as medical personnel attended to Nicole Nocera.
“That’s typical of how she plays,” said Gottuso of Nicole Nocera’s all-out effort. “She was having a great game. Her health is all that’s important right now. The results are what we’re waiting for. Hopefully, it’s just a bad bruise.”
