Laurel’s offensive woes continued in a 43-32 Section 2-AA loss to Riverside.
Riverside’s Jake Thellman scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the first half as the Panthers (4-1, 9-5) took a 28-16 lead. Laurel couldn’t keep up, mainly because of solid defense by Riverside and cold shooting by the Spartans (3-10, 1-4).
“They pressured us the entire game and we’re struggling offensively,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said. “We got down by 12 in the first half, and we we’re playing all right, but with how we’re struggling offensively right now, we couldn’t make a run.”
Chad Long led Laurel with 13 points. Ryan Melichar scored eight points and corralled eight rebounds.
