Mohawk holds off Central Valley

Mohawk outscored host Central Valley 16-6 in the second quarter to rally and forge a 45-40 nonsection win.

Mohawk (9-2), which trailed 16-12 after one quarter, was coming off a Section 1-AA road loss to Riverside on Monday.

"We needed this win. Especially going on the road," Mohawk coach Mike O'Lare said. "I thought we played well.

"Any time you can win on the road after playing on the road the night before is a good win."

Erin Giancola registered a game-high 19 points for Mohawk, while Aliya Gage and Carlee Stelter supplied 11 apiece.

"Erin has been playing well," O'Lare said. "We expect her to play well. She's been pretty consistent all season."

Kaelyn Underwood tossed in 11 points to lead Central Valley (7-3), which is a Class AAA school.
