Bob McQuiston has watched as Brandon Bennett worked tirelessly to get to where he wants to be on the basketball court.
Tuesday night, Bennett's efforts paid off.
The sophomore guard scored a career-high 22 points, including four 3-point field goals, in Shenango High's 64-51 WPIAL Section 1-AA homecourt victory over New Brighton.
The Wildcats are now 1-3 in the section, 2-10 overall. The Lions slipped to 1-4 and 2-8.
Bennett hit 6 of 11 field goals on the night, including 5 of 8 from 3-point land.
"Brandon has just been getting better and better every game," Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. "We knew going into the season that he could shoot the basketball, but to his credit, he's put a lot of time into improving his game. He is one of the last people to leave the gym night after night, he shoots after practice after everyone is gone. Last night, (Monday night), we were finished with practice at 6 and he couldn't stay on the court because the girls had a game. When I went into the locker room, he was in there doing dribbling drills on his own. It's just the type of player he is. He is only going to continue to get better."
Vinny Turco chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds and Ryan Conner and Maxwell Reamer added 10 markers apiece for the Wildcats.
