Riverside pulls away from Shenango
Shenango (37) Vs. Riverside (52)
Dec 10, 2015
The visiting Shenango Lady Wildcats self-destructed in the fourth quarter in a 52-37 Section 1-AA opening loss to Riverside.
Shenango (0-1, 1-2) trailed just 38-33 going into the final quarter, but the game quickly got out of reach. Riverside made 7 of 8 free throws in the final period to seal the win.
"We panicked in the fourth quarter," first-year Lady Wildcats coach Jason Rankin said. "We were up 33-31 at one point (in the third quarter), but they wore us down and we just fell apart. We missed a lot of 3s, but we missed shots from inside the key as well. Riverside switched to a zone later in the game and it just seemed to confuse us.
"But we're growing and that's OK," he added. "Our effort was good. We just have to stick with our game plan and make some shots. The good thing is that we get to play them again."
Shenango shot 13 of 53 for the game, including just 1 of 15 from 3-point land.
Samantha Seaburn led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points and Angelina Sibeto added 10. Jacqui Baker had seven rebounds.
Katie Stang scores 25 points for Riverside (1-0, 4-0).
