Riverside defeats Laurel
Riverside (61) Vs. Laurel (47)
Feb 06, 2013
Early foul troubles doomed Laurel in a WPIAL Section 2-AA defeat at Riverside.

The Spartans (1-12 section, 5-16 overall) were outscored 21-4 from the charity stripe, as the Panthers went to the line 21 more times.

“Anytime you’re outscored by that much at the free-throw line, it’s tough to overcome,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “Jacob Wilson and James Steele got in foul trouble early and that hurt us a bit.”

Riverside fed off the momentum and energy of its senior night festivities to take a 16-5 first-quarter advantage and never looked back.

“They came out very intense,” Locke said. “They were more aggressive than us and got up a bit on us early.”

Josh Dando finished with a team-high 19 points for the Spartans.
