Jan 10, 2012
Union withstood a late surge by Sewickley Academy for a Section 1-A home win.
The Lady Scots (2-2, 7-5) missed three straight front-ends of a one-and-one in the last 30 seconds and the Lady Panthers cut the deficit from seven points down to two.
Sewickley Academy (1-4, 4-6) missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
“It was a good win,” Union coach Brian Fadden said. “I’m disappointed with how we played in the second half; we didn’t play four quarters.”
Savannah Partridge netted all 14 of her team-high points in the first half for the Lady Scots. Sisters Miranda Heaney and Marissa Heaney followed with 13 points apiece.
Kaylee Lemmon pulled down 10 rebounds for Union and Allison Bertolino was next with eight.
“Bertolino and Lemmon really stepped up down the stretch for us,” Fadden said. “They were making shots and getting key rebounds.”
Sewickley Academy’s Rachel Pregel led all scorers with 16 points.
