Wilmington girls roll to win
Wilmington (56) Vs. Reynolds (32)
Jan 10, 2012
Nearly two weeks off didn’t do anything to slow Wilmington in a District 10, Region 2-AA road matchup.
Carly Christofferson scored a career-high 14 points and Alanna Elliott added 17 for the Lady Greyhounds, who last played Dec. 29 in the Union Boosters Tournament. Mackenzie Hiers was the third girl to score in double figures for Wilmington, which took a 27-14 first-half lead.
“I was concerned with how’d they come out after not playing in a long time,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brandy Sanford said. “We needed to come out and play with intensity, and they did. We pressed in the first quarter and in the third quarter, and they were really on it. They saw the motion of the offense, and really took advantage of it.”
Christofferson netted eight of her points in the first half for Wilmington (3-2, 6-4). Reynolds cut the lead to nine at the start of the fourth, but the Lady Greyhounds dominated the final period, outscoring Reynolds, 24-9.
“Christofferson has been getting a few points here and there, but tonight she had 14,” Sanford said. “She came up big for us — she had eight in the first half. She really stepped up today.”
