Ellwood City (57) Vs. Shenango (47)
Dec 22, 2010
Ellwood City fought off a late comeback attempt by Shenango to win a Section 2-AA matchup.
Ellwood City (1-1, 3-2) led, 41-34, heading into the fourth, but Shenango (3-2, 1-1) made a run early in the quarter to cut the lead to three. The Wolverines responded with two big shots and clutch free throws down the stretch.
“We went scoreless for a while there in the fourth,” Ellwood City coach Al Campman said. “Then (Ryan) Horgan hit a big shot and (Brandon) Lucarelli made a big 3, and from then on it was foul shots.”
The Wolverines made 21 of 29 from the charity stripe.
“We shot free throws much better tonight than we have the past few games,” he said. “Anytime you win a game after a tough loss, it’s a big win. That’s what you have to do in this league, control your home court and try to steal one on the road.”
Horgan led all scorers with 24 points. Brett Chieze and Jeff Williams each had a team-high 13 for Shenango.
