Laurel’s defense clamped down on Portersville Christian in the second half to lift the Lady Spartans to a victory.

Laurel (2-3) allowed just 11 second-half points, including four in the final quarter. The heated, nonsection battle was littered with foul shots.

“They called 46 fouls in the game and it was intense,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “We really didn’t change anything (in the second half). We picked up the intensity on defense a little bit. I’m just glad we got out with the win.”

Laurel trailed, 18-15, at intermission but outscored Portersville Christian, 17-11, in the second half. Becca Kerr, Dalainey Meals and Marissa Wallas led the Lady Spartans with eight points each.
