Dec 22, 2010
Laurel built a 17-point lead late in the third quarter and held on for a Section 2-AA win over Mohawk.
The Warriors were able to get within three points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Laurel clinched the win by converting 10 of its 17 free-throw attempts in the final frame.
“We played smart basketball for three quarters,” Spartans coach Mike Tinstman said. “Mohawk turned up the heat in the fourth quarter and we were fortunate enough to get out with the win.
“Our kids stepped up and made some big foul shots to get that win.”
Todd Fennick led Laurel (1-1, 1-4) with 18 points and Chad Long chipped in with 14.
Phil Fava paced Mohawk (0-1, 1-4) with 12 markers and Tim Glass contributed 11.
