Riverside outlasts Neshannock boys

The Lancers struggled in the second quarter and it proved costly in a 62-53 non-section loss to the Panthers in The Clash High School Basketball Classic at New Castle.

Riverside (7-5) outscored Neshannock (7-3) 14-5 in the second period to build a 31-20 lead at the half.

“It came down to we had one bad quarter,” Lancers coach John Corey said. “We only made two field goals in the second quarter. The shots weren’t falling.”

Ean Oprean poured in a career-high 29 points for Neshannock. He netted nine markers in the third quarter and 11 more in the final frame. Dante DeLillo chipped in with 20 markers.

“We were down by 17 points early in the fourth quarter. But the guys were still plugging away and working hard.”

Justin Baust led the Panthers with 21 points.
