Defense delivered for the Wilmington High boys basketball team on Saturday.
The Greyhounds held Mohawk in single digits in three of the four quarters en route to a 71-37 non-region road win.
Wilmington (6-5) won its fourth consecutive contest.
“We started off a little sluggish,” Greyhounds coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “After the first quarter, the kids kind of clamped down on the defensive end. Hopefully we can continue our roll.
“We’re getting that team chemistry where we need it to be. We’ve been getting after it on the defensive end. We’re scoring the ball in many ways and playing good defense.”
Spencer DeMedal delivered 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. He scored eight of his markers in the second quarter and nine more in the third before sitting out the entire final frame.
Robert Pontius provided 11 points for Wilmington and Tyler Kish collected 10. Reese Bender pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with his seven points.
Parker Lyons, Brandon Gennuso and Joey Leslie tossed in six points apiece to lead Mohawk (2-10).
