The Neshannock High boys basketball team has punched its ticket to the playoffs.
The Lancers placed four players in double figures, led by Donald Colucci with a career-high 17 points, in a 66-53 WPIAL Section 1-AA win at New Brighton.
Ethan Moose added 15 points for the winners and Jake Rylott and Jimmy Medure chipped in with 12 apiece.
Neshannock is now 8-2 in the section, 12-4 overall. The Lions slipped to 3-7, 6-1.
Medure also grabbed eight rebounds, Moose seven and Colucci six. Rylott checked in with four assists and Moose had four steals.
The Lancers led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but Zeph Rombold scored 13 of New Brighton’s 14 points in the second quarter to keep the Lions close.
“We didn’t do a very good job of guarding Rombold in the second quarter,” Neshannock coach John Corey said. “We played really well in the third, though, and got ourselves some breathing room.”
Corey was especially pleased with the play of Colucci, who scored 11 points in the third quarter, enabling Neshannock to break open a close game.
“Colucci had a terrific game, he was really a spark for us,” Corey said. “This being an important section game on the road made his performance even more special.”
Rombold finished with 21 points and R.J. Debo added 10.
