Wilmington (42) Vs. Rocky Grove (41)
Dec 16, 2014
The Lady Greyhounds found a way to pull out a victory against Rocky Grove.
Wilmington withstood a late push by the visiting Lady Orioles for a 42-41 District 10, nonregion victory.
“Everybody contributed for us; that was important,” said first-year Wilmington coach Matt Fabian. “It was a huge win for us. The first three games of the year were tough.
“We’re young and inexperienced. It was nice to get the win.”
The Lady Greyhounds (2-3) were up three points with the ball and 30 seconds left. The Lady Orioles deflected the ball and it went rolling down the other end of the floor with eight seconds to go.
A player for each squad gave chase and a Wilmington player saved the ball before it went out of bounds, but it was right to a Rocky Grove player with one second to go. The Lady Orioles player made a layup at the buzzer to close the scoring.
Hannah Drake delivered 15 points for the Lady Greyhounds and Lexi Brumbaugh chipped in with nine.
“Drake was a leader for us and I thought Reilly Hunt played good defense, too,” Fabian said.
