Laurel girls lose
Riverside (69) Vs. Laurel (33)
Dec 16, 2014
The Lady Spartans scored just 18 points in the final three quarters against host Riverside in a Section 1-AA loss.
Kristin Dicks paced Laurel (0-2, 2-4) with 10 points, while Ellen Shaffer and Diana Pontius contributed eight points each.
Riverside’s Katie Stang led all scorers with 32 points.
“She was really good off the drive,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said of Stang. “She’s going to put up 20 points a game no matter what you do. We really were focusing on the outside shot. She had some really good drives, the help defense was there but everything she shot was falling.”
Laurel kept pace in the first quarter, scoring 15 points to the Lady Panthers’ 18. However, 32 overall turnovers doomed the Lady Spartans.
“I think a lot of it is the continuity of our group of starters,” Shevitz said. “It’s coming, it was a great first quarter. Then we just fell apart. You can’t do that, you won’t win many games. We’re just not into the flow, it’s definitely not a lack of effort.”
