Mercer tops Wilmington girls
Wilmington (46) Vs. Mercer (62)
Jan 31, 2014
The visiting Lady Greyhounds’ playoff hopes took a major hit with the District 10, Region 2-AA loss.

Wilmington (4-4, 10-7) dropped into a fourth-place tie with Sharpsville (4-4, 7-8) and trail Sharon, Mercer and Greenville in the standings.

“Everything’s up in the air,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “A lot of things are happening in the region. Sharpsville beat Greenville the other day. We have two losses to Sharon and two losses to Mercer. We still have a shot, but we have to win out.”

The Lady ’Hounds dropped their fourth game in a row and haven’t played a home game since Jan. 8.

Wilmington trailed 34-26 entering the half, but managed just six points in the third quarter.

“We haven’t been putting two halves together in a long time,” Sanford said. “I thought we played a great defensive first half. We gave up 34 points, but I thought we did play well defensively. We just came up short in the third quarter.”

Hannah Drake led the way with 12 points, while Tessa Sikora and Cassidy Marett each posted 11.
