Dicks strong, but Laurel loses
Laurel (41) Vs. Riverside (53)
Jan 31, 2014
Brooke Dicks set a Lady Spartans record with 15 made free throws and scored a career-high 30 points in the Section 2-AA road setback.
Dicks connected on 15 of 17 freebies to best the previous mark held by Marissa Wallas, Shevitz said.
Dicks also had eight rebounds and five steals.
“I’ve got to give Brooke Dicks a lot of credit,” Shevitz said. “She tried to carry us. She was driving the lane very well. This is the best game Brooke has had during her senior year. She knew when to drive, and to get the foul shot record at Riverside is saying something. It’s just too bad it came in a losing effort.”
The Lady Spartans (6-3, 11-7) made just 11 shots.
“The problem was we needed someone else to score and we didn’t get it,” Shevitz said. “If you take away Brooke’s shots, we shot 14 percent for the game. That tells you all you need to know about the game.
“I don’t want to use this as an excuse, but we’ve had two hours of practice since last Friday because of the weather. Everyone else has had to deal with it also. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it.”
Ellen Shaffer added a team-high nine rebounds.
