Samantha Seaburn and Angelina Sibeto each had double-doubles as the Lady Wildcats posted the Section 2-AA victory on the road.
Seaburn collected a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Sibeto registered 11 points and 13 rebounds for Shenango (5-3, 9-7).
“That definitely helped out, because it was a scrappy, low-scoring game,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We’re happy to get out of there with the win.”
The Lady ’Cats trailed 22-21 entering the second half and took the lead for good in the third quarter.
“The girls played pretty good defense in the second half,” Turk said. “Not as good as I would have liked, but we did hold Beaver Falls to single digits in three quarters.
“They dribble drive real hard and we had a hard time stopping that. We were fouling them, so we switched defenses. That held them in check.”
Shenango strengthened its hold on the section’s fourth and final playoff berth with the win, but still have to play Neshannock (8-0, 17-0), Mohawk (6-2, 12-2) and Laurel (5-2, 10-5) a second time.
“Can we win at least one of those three,” Turk asked rhetorically. “I think we can. We haven’t played our best basketball yet, but we have to beat Beaver Falls next week. Even if we lose to those three, I think we’ll be OK. As long as we finish at 6-6 in the section, I think we’ll have a pretty good shot at the fourth spot.
“That’d be huge for Shenango basketball. It’s been a long time since we made the playoffs. It’s been a long time since we had even won a section game. We’re definitely pleased with the five wins, but we’re not satisfied.”
