Wilson’s double-double leads Laurel
Laurel (70) Vs. Rochester (63)
Jan 23, 2014
Zachary Wilson reached double figures in points and rebounds to lead the visiting Spartans to the nonsection win.

Wilson posted a 18-point, 17-rebound double-double for Laurel (8-8).

“I’ve been joking with him, because he had a lot of rebounds off his own misses,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “He had a bunch of putbacks. He always plays hard and this was no different. It was a pretty good effort by him.”

The Spartans jumped out to 23-14 and 39-26 leads in the first half before holding off the Rams (3-12) in the second half.

“We went down there and played hard,” said Locke, whose club knocked down 21-of-62 field goals. “We got a lead early on, but they made us work for the win. I was happy with how we fought in the second half.

“We shot the ball really well in the first half. We were shooting well and got them to turn it over. We were able to get some easy ones. In the second half, we did some dumb things that allowed them to get back into it.”

Scott Wilson checked in with 17 points and Wilson contributed 16 points and seven boards.

“The guys love the fact that our scoring can come different places,” Locke said. “Noah Wertz had 17 points against Beaver Falls the other night and Mason Mraz usually does a good job scoring for us. It’s definitely nice to four or five guys that put up double digits.”
