Ellwood tops Hopewell
Ellwood City (53) Vs. Hopewell (40)
Jan 23, 2014
The visiting Wolverines overcame a slow first half to post their first Section 2-AAA win.

Ellwood City (1-7, 3-13) managed just 12 points in the first 16 minutes, but exploded for 41 in the second half.

“We got down early and didn’t let that change us,” Ellwood City coach Anthony Ovial said. “We were able to stay in the game and made a run in the second half. Even when we weren’t scoring a whole lot, we were able to create some defensive pressure. The kids were playing really hard and were doing the little things well.

“Our guys knew we were playing pretty well. We just weren’t putting the ball in the hoop in the first half. We were getting open looks. That’s the funny thing about this game. If you’re playing hard, the ball will eventually go in.”

Tanner Walsh led Ellwood with 18 points.
