Jan 14, 2012
Laurel’s bid for an upset fell short at home in a 58-48 Section 2-AA loss against Riverside.
The Spartans (0-5, 1-11) led by one point with 5:51 left before the Panthers (4-1, 9-5) took the lead for good.
“We came down (after Riverside took the lead) and missed a few shots, and they kept coming down and scoring,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said. “We were there, we played hard, we just didn’t make the shots we needed to make in the fourth quarter.”
The Spartans led 17-11 after one period, but were outscored 18-4 in the second stanza to trail 29-21 at the break.
Todd Fennick registered a team-high 21 points for Laurel.
Brent Mulneix tossed in a game-best 22 markers for Riverside.
