Wilmington used suffocating defense to cruise past Lakeview in a District 10, Region 2-AA matchup.
Leading 22-8 at the half, the Lady Greyhounds (1-1 region, 3-2 overall) put the game away by outscoring the Lady Sailors 12-0 in the third period.
“The girls came out and played terrific defense,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “When you get the ball back consistently on defense that opens things back up for your offense.”
The Lady Greyhounds’ Haley Marett led all scorers with 19 points, including 11 in the second quarter. She added seven rebounds as well. Julie Burns pulled down a game-best 17 rebounds.
“Haley and Julie both played well,” Sanford said. “They’re leaders and they take that role seriously.”
