Summit slips past Laurel

The Knights completed a second-half comeback to beat Laurel in a WPIAL Section 2-AA contest.

Both teams have qualified for the playoffs and split the season series. The Spartans won the first matchup at home, 65-52.

Laurel (6-5, 11-7) was up nine midway through the third quarter when Summit Academy turned up the heat. Spartans coach Mike Tinstman said his team committed three costly turnovers in a row.

Summit Academy (7-5, 9-11) eventually took the lead for good with three minutes left in the fourth.

Laurel shot 7 of 15 from the foul line in the final frame.

“That was the difference,” Tinstman said.

Jake Dando paced the Spartans with 18 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Shane Caldararo with 14 and nine.

Qu’ran Reeves netted 18 markers for Summit Academy.
