The Mohawk High boys basketball team faced its first challenge of the season on Saturday night.
The Warriors held off a fourth-quarter run by New Brighton to earn a 56-50 victory in the Riverside Shootout.
Trailing 46-32 after three quarters, the Lions (0-2) went on to outscore Mohawk (2-0), 18-10.
“We faced a little adversity going into the fourth quarter,” Warriors coach Kevin Wrona said. “They made a run and we made some poor decisions down the stretch, but we were able to fight through that adversity. We responded well to get it done.”
Matt Lorello scored a game-high 24 points. Cory Nesbitt followed with nine markers.
D.J. Pearson paced New Brighton (0-2) with 20 points.
