A third-quarter collapse cost the Lady Greyhounds in their District 10, Region 2-AA contest against Sharpsville.
Wilmington (3-3, 7-6) held a 20-16 halftime lead but mustered only three points in the third period, while Sharpsville scored 13.
“That’s a real good team,” Lady ’Hounds coach Brian Turk said. “I knew in the second half they were going to come out firing.”
Sharpsville (5-1, 10-4) drained 13 of 15 foul shots in the second half to pull two games ahead of Wilmington in the region standings.
The Lady ’Hounds also turned the ball over 12 times in the final two quarters thanks to Sharpsville’s halfcourt trap.
Stephanie Kish tallied a team-high 13 points for Wilmington. Haley Marett grabbed eight rebounds.
Injured starters Ashley Gardner and Mackenzie Hiers returned to the Lady ’Hounds’ lineup last night. Gardner missed the previous eight games, while Hiers skipped the last two.
“That’s going to be big down the stretch,” Turk said.
