The Union High boys basketball team saw its chance at a section championship diminish Tuesday night.
The Scotties dropped a 57-45 decision at Eden Christian Academy to all-but end their WPIAL Section 1-A title hopes.
Sewickley Academy and Eden Christian are tied for the section lead at 8-1, followed by Union at 7-3. The Scotties (10-8 overall), who clinched a playoff berth with a win over Quigley Catholic on Saturday, host Sewickley Academy on Friday night.
Tre’von Charles led Union with 19 points, followed by Garrison Bell with 10 markers. Bell also had nine rebounds, nine assists and six steals.
The Scotties led 25-23 at the half, but Eden Christian started to open things up in the third quarter.
“We sort of panicked in the second half,” Union coach Mark Stanley said. “They ran a half-court trap and their pressure hurt us. We turned
it over a couple of times and things just began to snowball.
“Once we got down, we couldn’t catch up.”
