Laurel (79) Vs. New Brighton (64)
Jan 26, 2016
The Spartans let the host Lions hang around for the first three quarters, but used a strong fourth quarter to secure a 79-64 Section 1-AA victory.
Laurel (7-2, 15-4) entered the fourth quarter leading by just five points, but was propelled by a 25-15 fourth-quarter advantage.
“We just grinded them defensively, the guys did a better job in the fourth,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “I give (New Brighton) a lot of credit, they came out with a lot of energy on their home floor. It was tight and our guys kept grinding, we were able to get a couple stops and get away from them.”
Mason Mraz posted a triple-double with a game-high 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
“It’s obviously enjoyable when you’re coaching a kid like him,” Locke said. “But it’s not surprising, we look for it and need it from him on a nightly basis.”
Scott Siddall followed closely with 26 points for the Spartans.
