The New Castle High girls basketball team got the balance it needed last night.

Three players reached double figures for the Lady ’Canes in a 56-44 Section 3-AAAA win at Pine-Richland.

“We don’t always play real well down there,” New Castle coach Luann Grybowski said. “Overall, I was happy with the performance.

“It’s nice that we have different people step up.”

Shelby Rodgers had 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals for the playoff-bound Lady ’Canes (9-1 section, 14-3 overall).

“Shelby had probably her best game,” Grybowski said.

Logan Hartman and Nikki Wise chipped in with 14 points each for New Castle. Hartman added seven rebounds and Wise contributed seven assists.

The Lady ’Canes stretched their lead to 29 early in the fourth quarter before the Lady Rams (3-6, 10-9) fought back.
