The Shenango High boys basketball team’s 3-point shooting let it down last night.
The Wildcats made just 1 of 17 shots from behind the arc in a 54-50 WPIAL Section 1-AA homecourt overtime loss to Riverside.
“We’ve actually been shooting the ball pretty well from 3-point range,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “But Riverside did a good job defensively. We didn’t get a lot of clean looks, but give their defense credit for that.
“We knew it was going to be a battle,” he added. “The kids played hard and about that part I am really pleased.”
James Micco led the Wildcats (2-4 section, 7-5 overall) with 25 points. The senior had a shot to win the game in regulation, but it fell short.
“He didn’t get a clean look,” McQuiston said.
Zach Gould also scored 25 markers and Logan Sheridan added 14 for the Panthers (3-3, 6-6).
Gould scored five of Riverside’s nine points in overtime, opening with a 3-pointer, then added crucial free throws to seal the win.
