Lady Lancers clinch title
Neshannock (44) Vs. Beaver Falls (28)
Feb 04, 2014
The visiting Lady Lancers overcame their shooting struggles and ballhandling issues to rout the Lady Tigers in Section 2-AA action.
Neshannock (10-1, 20-1) was 15 of 44 from the field, which was a season low. The Lady Lancers also turned the ball over a season-high 26 times.
“We need to get back on track and quickly,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “The positive is we won by 16 points.
“We had steals in our hands and fumbled the ball away. I realize Beaver Falls is quick and athletic. But the first and third quarters were just not good for us at all in any aspect.”
The win also captures the section championship outright for the Lady Lancers. Neshannock’s last league title was the 2007-2008 campaign when it shared the honor with Riverside and Beaver Falls. The Lady Lancers’ last outright section title came in the 2005-2006 season.
“A win is a win and we’ll take it,” Grybowski said. “We like having the title outright. I think it’s been a long time coming for the program.
“The kids have gone through some adversity. I feel they are very deserving of the championship. I truly believe we are the best team in the section.”
Madison McHale tossed in a game-high 22 points with three assists for Neshannock. Cassidy Burrelli followed with eight markers, six rebounds and four steals. Tayler Grybowski added seven points, five boards and four steals.
Kashius Harris notched a team-high 14 points for Beaver Falls.
