Dec 20, 2013
The Lady Greyhounds were strong on the defensive end in the fourth quarter in posting a District 10, Region 2-AA home win.
The Lady Tigers (0-1, 1-4) were within 46-41 after three quarters before Wilmington (1-0, 5-1) closed it out for the victory.
“The defense really did play well in the fourth quarter,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brandy Sanford said. “We had a bit of a lag in the third quarter, offensively and defensively.
“I kept telling the girls that we’re tired this week for some reason. We knew it would be a tough game for us. They knew they had to go out and get it done and they did.”
Hannah Drake delivered a game-high 17 points for Wilmington and Tessa Sikora supplied 14 with four blocks. Alanna Elliott was next with 11.
Former New Castle standout and Westminster graduate Maria Joseph is Sharon’s coach. Joseph was an assistant coach with the Lady ’Canes before leaving to coach the Lady Tigers. She’s in her second season at the helm.
