Asia Borders registered 16 points and six rebounds for Ellwood City in a nonsection road win over Union.
The Class AAA Lady Wolverines (3-0) built a 17-6 lead over the single-A Lady Scots (1-2). Union battled back to get within 22-17 at the half.
“I was pleased with the way we competed,” Lady Scots coach Brian Fadden said. “We got down and we’d make a run. We never quit.
“We were competitive the whole way. I was pleased with our effort.”
Miranda Heaney led Union with 15 points and Hannah Booth chipped in with 11 markers and seven rebounds.
Angela McCowin added 10 points for Ellwood City. She pulled down a team-best seven rebounds as well.
“We did not play our best basketball, but we were able to pull out a win,” Lady Wolverines coach Jolene Servick said. “The girls played hard and had some good runs.”
