Mohawk slows Aloi, Ellwood
Mohawk (52) Vs. Ellwood City (37)
Dec 12, 2012
Defense helped the Mohawk High boys basketball team get in the win column last night.
The Warriors limited Ellwood City Lincoln to two third-quarter points in a 52-37 nonsection road win.
Mohawk (1-2) held a 27-26 advantage before building a 38-28 buffer after three periods.
The Wolverines’ Nick Aloi, averaging 25 points a game coming in, was held to just 10 tallies.
“We did a nice job defensively as a team tonight,” Warriors coach Rob Fadden said. “We knew that Aloi was a good kid.
“We threw a bunch of different looks at him. We played man to man on him. We ran a couple different guys at him at different times. We were in a situation where we definitely needed a win, and it feels good to get one.”
Lucas Grim recorded 15 points to lead the Warriors and Jonathan Grim was next with 13.
“Both of the Grim boys did a nice job,” Fadden said. “Lucas is consistently coming up big for us. That is nothing new.
“Hopefully Jonathan can build off his offensive performance he had (last night).”
Mario Greco netted a team-high 11 points for the Wolverines (2-1).
“I thought we played hard,” first-year Ellwood coach Anthony Ovial said. “I thought we played pretty good defense.
“Our guys pounded away at it defensively. We had to secure the stop. We forced Mohawk into some situations they didn’t want to be in, but we didn’t get the rebounds when we need them.”
