Union outscored Avonworth 19-10 in the third quarter to break a halftime time in a nonsection home win.

“Our execution was better in the second half,” Scotties coach Dave Smialowski said. “We talked about that at halftime.

“It was a good win for us. Avonworth plays hard.”

Joe Salmen posted a game-best 23 points for Union. He was 7 of 7 from the foul line, to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

“That was Joe’s best game of the year,” Smialowski said. “We really stressed to him to let the game come to him and he did that (last night).”

Benjamin Young recorded 19 points for the Scotties (2-1) and Markel Peace was next with 15. Drew Robinson handed out five assists for the victors.
