Lady Lancers get first win
Neshannock (69) Vs. Carrick — Girls AA (57)
Dec 11, 2012
It took three tries, but the Neshannock High girls basketball team broke through last night.
The Lady Lancers bounced back from a pair of losses in the New Castle Tipoff Tournament with a 69-57 nonsection home victory over Carrick.
The victory comes as a relief to Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski.
“It feels good to get that first win,” she said.
Neshannock (1-2) was able to jump out to an early lead against the Lady Raiders (1-2) on strong shooting, taking a 42-27 advantage into the half.
“We pushed the ball up the floor a little bit,” Grybowski said. “We were really hitting our outside shots in the first half and running the floor very well.”
Tayler Grybowski powered the Lady Lancers with 17 points, including two 3-pointers. She also contributed six rebounds and four steals. Sisters tandem Katie Burrelli and Cassidy Burrelli had 12 points apiece, with Katie having a team-high seven rebounds.
“We had some trouble at the beginning of the second half when Carrick scored nine in a row,” Grybowski said. “I had to call a timeout, but we settled down from there.”
